Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. Year C

ASSUMPTION OF OUR LADY
This Sunday, 15th August 2010, is the celebration of the Assumption of Mary, Mother of God, body and soul to Heaven.   Catholics celebrate the feast of the Assumption on Aug. 15, and Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholics celebrate the Dormition of the Theotokos (the falling asleep of the Mother of God) on or around the same date. Eastern Christians hold that Mary died a natural death, that her soul was received by Christ upon death, and that her body was resurrected on the third day after her death and taken up into heaven in anticipation of the general resurrection.  Her tomb was found empty on the third day. Pope Pius XII declared, in 1950, Mary’s Assumption to be a doctrine of the Catholic Faith.

Eucharistic Adoration
Revised Times
From Tuesday 3rd August the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for adoration and personal prayer in the Blessed Sacraments Chapel on
Mondays, 11.30 am to 12.30 pm
Tuesday to Fridays 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.
There will be no exposition before the evening Mass at 7 pm.
“Come apart … and rest awhile”
The Blessed Sacrament Chapel will remain open on these days until after the Mass at 7.00 pm.
We encourage you to come and spend some time with Our Lord in prayer.  Relax in the presence of the Lord allow him to bless and heal you and all those for whom you pray.  By praying we gain many graces for ourselves and for others.
Recently Pope Benedict appealed to the Catholics in Ireland “Particular attention should be given to Eucharistic adoration … through intense prayer before the real presence of the Lord, you can make reparation for the sins of abuse that have done much harm, at the same time imploring the grace of renewed strength and a deeper sense of mission on the part of all bishops, priests, religious and lay faithful”.
At the end of his life on this earth Our Lord made a great promise.  He said “I will be with you all days until the end of time”.  The presence of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, is one way in which he keeps his promise.
O come let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

Dear Parishioners,
Parish finances
I wish to thank everyone who has been contributing to the Family Offering Campaign, either through the weekly envelopes, standing order, dues or regular donations.  We need this money for the day-to-day expenses of the parish.

The Parish Finance Advisory Committee unanimously agreed that this money should be set aside for major restorations to the Church, The Resource Centre or Parish Houses in the future.  This is very prudent advice.  Given the age of the Church we could be faced with big bills in the future e.g. the boiler or the electrical system may need to be repaired or replaced.  We cannot foresee a large sum of money coming to us again, or the day-to-day account being able to finance major repairs.
I am happy to say that the final phase of renovation to the roof has been completed.  The cost was €37,386 plus fees.  Total cost altogether to repair the roof amounted to almost €150,000
Your loyalty is obvious and your generosity is greatly appreciated especially at this time of economic strain.
With renewed thanks, John D Killeen P.P.

Year C readings

Dear Parishioners,
Thank you for your contributions to all the collections during the year.  You have been very generous
Please continue to support the family offering campaign which is vital for the day-to-day expenses of the Parish.
Some of you contribute through weekly envelopes, others by cheque or by a Bankers Standing Order.
My concern is the need for sufficient money for our daily expenses e.g. lighting, heating, repairs, salaries, altar requisites, insurance etc.
Please continue to be generous.  If you need a box of envelopes or a bankers order mandate, please let us know.
I will issue a statement of receipts and payments later.
I wish also to thank all who manage our collections and accounts, the organizers of the 300 Club and the members of the finance advisory committee.
Yours sincerely,
John D Killeen P.P.

The preparations are on-going for 50TH INTERNATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS – Dublin 2012.  Official website – www.iec2012.ie.  The 2012 Congress will take place from June 10-17, 2012.  Congresses take place every four years and offer liturgical and cultural events along with lectures and workshops to the faithful.  The event will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Second Vatican Council.  The theme for the 2012 International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) is “The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with one another”  When Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin announced the context and theme of the IEC in 2009, he spoke of IEC 2012 as  “a moment of renewal for the Church’s teaching and for her understanding of herself as Body of Christ and Body of God”

The Eucharistic Congress is -  “an international gathering of people which aims to: promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic Church, help improve our understanding and celebration of the liturgy and draw attention to the social dimension of the Eucharist.”  Four years ago, Quebec hosted the event, but the last time one took place in Ireland was in 1932.
